The Office of the Vice President for Research, Publications, and Linkages Office (OVPRPL), together with the Office of the Vice President for Graduate Studies (OVPGS) organized the second Research Competency Enhancement Seminar for the academic year 2023-2024. LCUP GS students attended the seminar on October 14, 2023 at the Atis Hall, BarCIE International Center, LCUP Main Campus, City of Malolos, Bulacan and through simultaneous live broadcasts on LCUP Facebook and YouTube accounts.
The seminar featured two guest speakers from different fields of expertise, one being Prof. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita, a former public servant, book author, and a distinguished alumna of LCUP GS, and Dr. Feorillo Petronilo A. Demeterio III, a Full Professor of the Department of Filipino, College of Liberal Arts, and the Executive Director of the Research and Grants Management Office of De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila.
Professor Sta. Rita’s talk entitled “My Journey: Lessons Learned on a Thousand Miles of Purposeful Steps to a Definitive Career Path in Public Administration” focused on her life and professional experience from her years as a working student, her service as a former Provincial Public Administrator, to her present years as a book author and head of non-government sectors who cater to the elderly through community outreach. She also took the opportunity to introduce her published and soon-to-be-released books on Public Administration and share excerpts from them.
Following the talk of Prof. Sta. Rita was Dr. Demeterio’s seminar on Collaborative Multidisciplinary Research which delved into relevant points including distinction among Disciplinary, Multidisciplinary, Cross-disciplinary, Interdisciplinary, and Transdisciplinary Research, coupled with his experiences on Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Research, DLSU’s Academic Leadership Development Program, his reflections on DLSU’s Traditional and Recent Research Centers, and the advantages and disadvantages of Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Research.
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Prof. Sta. Rita and Dr. Demeterio for gracing the program as guest speakers. Students in doctorate programs attended the seminar on-site, while students in master programs witnessed the live broadcast.
